I remember what I personally sacrificed by NOT being able to speak up.
I was hired by a company for Director Level Role. When the company offered me the salary, and I just said “yes”. If you know how negotiations work, companies usually expect you to come back and ask for more. So they “low ball” you. But I was afraid to “speak up” and ask for more. Not long after this, a male was hired for the same role as mine in a different department. I accidentally saw his paperwork on the copy machine, and he was making more money than I was. I felt anger rising up in me. But my anger was directed at ME. I was the only one who was responsible for not speaking up and asking for more.
Once I learned this valuable lesson, I made a commitment to myself to speak up. But it wasn’t easy. It felt really scary! I felt nervous when I had to do this. My stomach would hurt; I felt like I couldn’t breathe; and my voice would get shaky. So I began writing scripts for myself ahead of time. And I would practice around my apartment, until I felt more comfortable. And I did a whole lot more to learn how to speak up both naturally and confidently.
Learning how to speak up resulted in me going from “Accepting my Fate” with whatever I was given to “Creating my Destiny” and quickly TRIPLING my 6 figure income.
